| Angelina Eberly
In one of the strangest public art pieces I've seen, Angelina Eberly is
depicted firing a cannon at at group of Texas Rangers, who, in 1842, on
orders from Sam Houson were attempting to steal the goverment archives
from Austin and return them to the city of Houston. Angelina fired the
town cannon at them, but hit General Land Office building instead. The
people of Austin awoke and recovered the archives from the Rangers.
The sulpure is on 6th and Congress, on the very spot the event took place.
The sculptor is Pat Oliphant,
a widley syndicated political cartoonist.
