A Smoking Pit
Just about the dumbest idea anyone ever had was to sequester smokers at a lower level than the rest of the public so that the smoke was sure to get right in their faces. The mall in my town used to have these but then it got remodeled and now of course no longer allows smoking inside. Neither does the Gaston Mall, but it still has its smoking pit.
